Split and its archipelago

Description

Split is Croatia's second-largest city and the center of Dalmatia, the southern part of the Croatian coast. Its center is an ancient Roman palace built by the emperor Diocletian, which has been recreated throughout history to form a living, breathing magma of architectural styles. An exceptional monument. Split is a lively city with a wide range of clubs. The city's urbanized coastline stretches some 100 km from Omiš to Trogir, a medieval town on a small island linked to the mainland by a bridge.

To the south of Omiš lies the beautiful Makarska riviera, emblazoned by the Biokovo massif, with its lovely beaches.

The Split archipelago boasts some of Croatia's most famous islands, including Brač, famous for its magnificent Zlatni Rat beach, and Hvar, the island of the sun, fragrant with lavender fields.
